COP28: World Meteorological body pledges support to UNMA

DUBAI: Hon. Dr Ruth Nankabirwa  Ssentamu, Minister of Energy and Mineral Development on Sunday 3rd of December led the Ugandan team for a bilateral engagement with the Secretary-General (SG) of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), Prof.Jukka Petteri Taalas at COP28.

The SG pledged additional support to Uganda's Meteorological Services. The support includes strengthening the weather observation network through the Systematic Observations Financing Facility (SOFF) initiative, Climate Risk and Early Warning Systems-East Africa project, Impact Based Weather Forecasting project, Water at the Heart of Climate Action project, and Human Resource Capacity Development.

The SG highlighted that WMO encourages the semi-autonomous status of Meteorological Services for effective delivery of early warning information on weather and climate.
