The Division provides weather advisories to the farming community through weather forecasts and outlooks issued by UNMA including the monthly climate outlooks and updates.

The division also monitors and collects agro-meteorological data at various stations based within the National Agricultural Research Organisation centres.

The division also monitors crop and pasture conditions and meteorological elements by use of Remote Sensing.

On the basis of the data so gathered, the division quantifies the impact of meteorology on agriculture and livestock, and in collaboration with the Food Security Department gives early warning advisories to the government on the food security situation.

The directorate also prepares and issues monthly and dekadal agro-meteorological bulletins
